Although the city of Hamburg contains a good selection of accommodation, true value for money is often difficult to find in the way of lodging, unless you are planning to stay at either the area's popular youth hostels or camping grounds. Hotels in the heart of the city centre can be especially pricey, being located just 8 km / 5 miles south of Hamburg International Airport (HAM).
Good hotels close to the Hamburg Hauptbahnhof include the Annenhof at Lange Reihe, the Lilienhof Hotel on Ernst-Merck-Strasse, and the Terminus on the Steindamn. Also worth noting, the Steens on Holzdamn is a charming hotel in a quiet corner of Hamburg's St. Georg area, whilst the Kempinski Atlantic at An der Alster provides luxury waterfront accommodation with enviable views. However, do bear in mind that a number of brothels also reside in this part of the city and often look exactly like a hotel, so be careful when asking for a room!
